The new campus

 

The government has allocated an area of 827 acres and 14 carats in the desert area, which lies 10 kilometers  in the southwestern part of Sohag City, to be the new campus of Sohag University.

The new site is near Alexandria – Aswan highway and Sohag airport as well as embracing a new city of Sohag, which is tempted to expand in this region, an outlet and alternative to the narrow valley, as well as to encourage other activities (industrial, agricultural, community) to invade this part of the desert and the formation of the nucleus of a new community pool interacts with the University and culturally influenced by them.

 

Construction of the new campus university is well underway. The first phase (1998 ­200 I), included the building of class-halls complex, a new administrative building and the establishment of a farm for agricultural production and livestock.

 

With the Presidential Decree to establish the new city of Sohag in 2000, and decree of establishing Sohag University in 2004, an the growing interest of the political leadership in the development of the Sohag province, it was urgent to speed up the construction the new campus of the University. Consequently, plans for gradual moving of university faculties to the new campus have been prepared. This process will begin with Faculty of Commerce, respectively beginning in academic year 2009 / 20 I O. Therefore, the construction work site is well under way in the following construction projects:

 

I - Central teaching halls (amphitheatres) building on 12 thousand square meters area, costing 50 million pounds.

 

2 - Classroom Building for the Faculty of Commerce on an area of 5500 square meters at a cost of 45 million pounds.

3 - Student hostels on an area of 1750 square meters at a cost of 9 million pounds.

 4 - Infrastructure; including roads, water pipelines, sewage network, electricity, and telephones at a cost of 115 million pounds.

5 - Technology complex that includes the buildings of the Faculty of Engineering, and industrial education in addition to the technical school on total area of 42000 square meters and costs about 120 million pounds.

6 - Classroom Building for the Faculty of Education on an area of 5500 square meters at a cost of up to 45 million pounds.

Alkawamel  Farm

The farm is established on an area of 160 acres in the northern part of the area allocated to the university buildings. Work has begun in the farm since 1995. It includes a building, livestock barns, warehouse and a slaughterhouse, as well as plantations for the production of fruits and vegetables and agricultural crops.  


  University Press

 University Press has been moved to the new campus after rehabilitation at a cost of about ­50 thousand pounds. Currently, it prints all university publications. There is a plan to establish a special building for the modern printing press, equipped with advanced machinery and meet the future expansions for the printing process
